[Normally Remus gives a fake name, tries to get a feel for the pack before he launches his pitch. Alcide is-- different, though. This is the closest thing to a welcome he's ever gotten.
So he changes his tactic a bit.]
I'm Remus. Good to meet you. I'd actually just like to talk to you, if you don't mind.
[He pauses, thinking through his words carefully.]
Have you heard of a werewolf by the name of Fenrir Greyback?
[It's hard to imagine anyone, isolated werewolf pack or no, who hasn't. The man is infamous, the counter-argument flung by those opposing any sort of movement towards aiding werewolves. Not just in England, but anywhere with a large enough werewolf population.
This is more to gauge his opinion. There are many packs who revere him.]
Greyback? The name sounds familiar in a folk's tale way.
[Something about a werewolf in Europe. Huge and bloodthirsty and leading the biggest pack in the world. The name's come up a few time at the bars, with werewolves passing by.]
If you're chasing legends you've come to the wrong continent. Unless you believe he's actually the origin of the Chupacabra legend. [Some daring storytellers have claimed Greyback is the mythical demon-vampire-wolf that occasionally terrorizes farmers near the Mexican border. Alcide is absolutely certain the story is false, but rumors spread easily.]
[Remus shakes his head. Not quite the reaction he was hoping for but-- one he can work with.]
That's not it. [He knows all too well that Greyback is very, very real. He's no myth or legend, and he's not a hybrid anything. Just a werewolf that embraces every savage instinct with open arms.]
He's no legend, I'm afraid. There's a war in England, and Greyback has taken the side of those who would kill innocents to gain power for themselves. He's bringing other packs into the conflict with false promises that they will reverse the status quo and give werewolves revenge on those who oppressed us. [Remus' fingers tap an anxious rhythm against his thigh. He has no idea how this will go over.] I'm here on behalf of those who would stand against him. We weren't sure how far his influence had reached, but we'd heard word of packs coming in from overseas.
[There is a lot to unpack from what Remus is saying. First, werewolves getting involved in an unrelated conflict just doesn't sound at all like what Alcide knows, but more importantly:]
Who's oppressing us?
[In Alcide's experience and with the exception of an errant vampire here and there, only werewolves bother werewolves.]
Magical... ? [Vampires are common knowledge, Alcide's dealt with a few of them. And he's heard of witches and healers here and there, fortune tellers that aren't always frauds, mediums, but they've never been bothered by them, Alcide isn's even sure they know werewolves exist.
Remus is making this community sound very organized, 'governing bodies worldwide' he's never heard of anything like that. hell, he's never even had contact with a rival pack, that's how isolated they are.] I've been in this pack since I was a pup and I've never heard of a magical community, much less a government. So either you're pulling my leg or someone's been holding out on us.

The magical community. Most magical governing bodies worldwide are anti-werewolf as a matter of course.
[Now he feels like they're on two entirely different pages here.]

[His brow furrows-- something else must be going on here. There's something he's not getting. After a moment of thought, a question.]
Is there anyone who uses magic in your pack?
no subject
No, but there's a magic shop in town. What are you looking for? They focus on love talisman and male enhancements.
