Hey honey! I wanted to check on you, see how you're doing. I know you-know-what's coming up near the end of the month, wanted to go ahead and coordinate, y'know, see if you'd let me stay with you again. Let me know, okay?
I'm alright, thank you... this part of the month is easiest for me. You don't have to stay again if you don't want, or if you're busy-- I can handle it on my own. [That's not really answering his question....] How are you?
I would greatly appreciate it, if you stayed again. [emotional honesty is h a r d]
Hmm. I'll have to do that myself, sooner or later. [he's not really looking forward to it...] Were they very particular about the details of the contract or are we truly free to set them up as we like?
I'd love to, then. I'll go ahead and block off a coupla' days. [ just in case. ]
Trevor's a sweetheart, so ours is pretty wide open. I think he mostly just wanted to get me outta' the Down. [ a beat. ] Have you been meeting any submissives you like?
Just the night of and the morning after should be fine, I don't want to be an inconvenience.
I was asking more about the city than your partner, but that's still good to hear. I'm glad you're not living there anymore. [oh no is this what it feels like for normal people when their parents ask them if they've "met anyone special yet"] To tell the truth, I haven't really been thinking about it yet. [in other words: it's a problem for Future Remus]
[At least over the many years and variations of this argument he's experienced, he knows it's not one he can win. So........ he'll just give it up but think otherwise.]
It just seems like the sort of thing they'd do, force something more strict than people would otherwise want.
Oh-- [internal screaming] you don't need to do that. I'll figure something out. [or...... whoever he gets randomized to will get stuck with him. yknow, whichever. actually no he doesn't want that, for multiple reasons
teddy's comparison to a marriage proposal is making the whole prospect seem that much more intimidating] Most of the people I've gotten to know are either other Dominants or already contracted. [you can practically hear the discomfort] Really not a fan of how this is simultaneously like job-hunting, trying to pull, and finding a flatmate all in one. [never mind he has only done one of those things ever]
Remus Lupin. Bookshop owner and wizard. Pleasure to meet you, Madam Rosalind.
I was never a deft hand at potion-making, I'm afraid, so although a human blood substitute exists specifically for the consumption of vampires in my world, I'm sorry to say I can offer no expertise on it. But I do find it very impressive you've apparently come so far in crafting a version of your own. May I ask after your methods?
In short, it means I was born with the ability to use magic. In my case, I inherited it from my father, but where I'm from it's been known to spring up unexpectedly in otherwise entirely nonmagical families. I would be happy to discuss both matters at length in person.
[The woman in the photo appears to have just awoken. A light blanket is draped partially over her legs, covering the swell of her hips; but instead of concealing her curves, it only seems to accentuate them. Pillows of all sizes, colors, and cloths are stacked up near the headboard, giving everything a comfortable sense of luxury. The bed itself is a four-poster bed with translucent white linen hanging from the beams, draped just so to elegantly frame the scene. Dark curls of hair trails over soft blue sheets, and her eyes are half-lidded as she looks into the camera. Despite the toned arm lifted to shade her face from the morning light, there's a slight, sleepy curve to her lips.]
okay no but really, this can't have been meant for him. could it? no. no, certainly not. but what if it was? what is he supposed to say? oh merlin.....
after a long time of thinking and rethinking, typing out words and then erasing them, he finally ends up with this and sends it before he can second guess himself for the twentieth time]
I do appreciate the artistry that clearly went into this.
[As it happens, she didn't mean to send it to him. Diana is only just realizing her device has been hacked and her photos distributed--but of all the people they've been sent to, Remus is on the less upsetting end. Perhaps it's because they've shared a different sort of intimacy than this place expects, or just because he strikes her as a nice guy who won't take advantage of having this photo.
Either way, she reads the compliment as earnest, and while this is certainly an invasion of her privacy, it's no fault of his.]
Thank you. I do work in an art gallery, so I suppose it's begun to rub off on me.
I could bring him round, I'm sure. Whenever I get him to stop working.
[ he would have been so salty at that remark but he would have deserved it tbh ]
I'm not sure, I'm drafting up lists of what I need now and it's difficult to figure out where I can find them. I think I'll have to check out some of the shadier places in the down. Bit like Knockturn, in some places, but I can only hope they'll have what I need.
[His first instinct is to type something to the tune of "Be careful", but Regulus likely has as much if not more experience than Remus himself in such places.]
I imagine any ingredients gathered from magical creatures will be sparse, if they're available at all. Good luck on your search.
[ he does, fortunately (or unfortunately) and he knows to be cautious. a necessary evil. ]
Merlin, I know. They don't have magic here, do they? The only magic that's here was brought in by people like us. I'm almost afraid my potions won't work at all on people from different worlds.
If you want to consider some of the things they're capable of doing as a form of magic, maybe, but given their level of technology, who can really say?
For whatever it's worth, as far as I've been able to tell, magic doesn't seem to discriminate based on the world a person is from.
I suppose you're right on that. It seems too different to be magic, but it's not like I know much of anything about technology to tell the difference.
That's good. Though, when I started, they asked me if I could make 'mana potions' and I had to admit I had no bloody idea what mana was. Apparently in some worlds, magical power is limited by how much mana one has? The thought is unnerving, really.
[ for now, he's leaving them to their business. FOR NOW. ]
It's frustrating, to say the least, to have to worry about whether I can get ingredients or not. It alters safety, and efficacy, and just--well, you know how it is when you don't have what you need.
Thankfully for everyone involved, I have no intention of dying again, so I'll be implementing the utmost care in my experimentation.
[Yes he knows that very well, actually. Better than Regulus does. There's a bitter little part of him getting some catharsis over a rich kid learning what it's like not to have access to everything at his fingertips.]
Best of luck. I've seen a few plants about that are used in potions... only ones known to the muggle world, though.
[ remus!!! he's not being a prick about it!!! god. ]
Yeah, it's been alright finding those, I'm trying to keep up a good stock. I'm just worried about hurting people on accident from incorrect ingredients. I'll stick with safe things, for now. Maybe do some personal experiments.

I'm alright. Got contracted recently, actually. Felt like being proposed to for a second or two there.

If it was intended for me then I suppose I've proverbially put my foot in my mouth enough for one day.
no subject
It wasn't, actually. But even if it was, you haven't put your foot in your mouth. Not everyone wants pictures like these, especially unprompted.

It would be lying to say they were an unpleasant surprise. I just wanted to be sure it was a surprise meant for me.

[ uh, that was fast? but like, at least that means he's probably out of the down.
who did he contract? is it a muggle?
it's a muggle. ]
Re: text. un: rab.
Congratulations. Who have you contracted with? I assume you're moving in with them?
[Remus has met a few people with magic while here-- he does wonder if Regulus has contracted with one of them.]
no subject
[ which regulus isn't used to. still-- ]
He let me write the majority of the contract, so at least I know he's not in it to take advantage of me.
no subject
[Regulus could probably use as many "nice" people in his life as he can get.]
no subject
[ then-- ]
He wasn't... Put out by my magic. He even helped me get a job at the clinic so I could make healing potions.
[ a muggle? what a surprise, all things considered. ]
no subject
[!!! he contracted with a muggle omg
He almost types "And you weren't put out by his lack of magic?" but thinks better of it.]
That was kind of him. Are there potions ingredients available for complex brews, or are you only able to do simple ones?
[asking for a friend........... okay no he really is curious too]

This is probably the stupidest question I've ever asked in my life, but you wouldn't happened to have arrived with a flobberworm?
I need one rather desperately and I'm not happy about needing to look for something to replace it in the caves.
no subject
And then it's actually about flobberworms. Anti-climactic.]
Can't say I did. Nor do I know of anyone who routinely walks about with flobberworms stashed away on their person.
Replacing potions ingredients is tricky. Please don't poison yourself.
